Endometriosis

Endometriosis is when pieces of the endometrium (uterine lining) are found outside of the uterus. This endometrial tissue behaves the same way it does when in the uterus; it grows in response to oestrogen in preparation for implantation and sheds blood when there is no pregnancy. However this shed blood remains trapped and can cause tissue damage and symptoms. 25-50% of women with infertility have endometriosis.
